IPTV on Android TV
Install a player on Android TV or Google TV, including boxes, dongles and televisions with it built in.
What counts as Android TV
Standalone boxes, dongles such as the Chromecast with Google TV, and a large number of televisions from brands including Sony, Philips and TCL all run the same system underneath. Google TV is a newer interface on top of Android TV; for setting up a player, the two behave identically.
1. Install from Google Play
Open the Play Store on the device and search for an IPTV player. Install one of the results. Android TV generally has the widest choice of any television platform, which is one of the reasons these boxes are a good recommendation for older sets.
2. Add your account
Open the player and choose to add a playlist or account. Enter either the M3U address or the Xtream Codes server, username and password.
If the device is paired with the Google TV remote app on your phone, use that to type — it is dramatically faster than the on-screen keyboard and lets you paste a long address instead of entering it character by character.
3. Check the decoder setting
This is the setting most people never find, and it fixes more playback problems on Android than anything else. Most players have a decoder option in their playback settings, usually offering hardware, hardware+ and software modes.
Hardware decoding uses the chip in the device and is the most efficient, so start there. If particular streams show a black screen with working audio, or the picture tears, switch that channel to software decoding — it costs more processing power but handles awkward streams that the hardware path rejects.
4. Match the output to the content
Some Android boxes are set to output everything at 60Hz regardless of the source. If motion looks subtly wrong on films, look for an “auto frame rate” or “match content frame rate” option in the device’s display settings and turn it on.
