Setup guide

IPTV on Firestick

Install a player on an Amazon Fire TV Stick, enter your details, and fix the two things that usually go wrong.

Before you start

You need the Fire TV remote, your account details to hand, and a few minutes. Typing a long address with a remote control is the slowest part of this, so it is worth sending the details to your phone first — you will see why in a moment.

1. Install a player

From the Fire TV home screen, open the search icon at the top left and look for an IPTV player. Several are available in the Amazon Appstore. Pick one, open its page and choose Get or Download. When it finishes, do not launch it yet.

If the player you want is not in the Appstore, it can be sideloaded, but start with a store app: it updates itself, it cannot be removed by a policy change, and for most people it is all that is needed.

2. Open the player and add your account

Launch the app. Nearly every player opens on a screen offering to add a playlist, a portal or an account — the wording varies, the purpose does not. Choose it.

If the app asks for a username, password and server URL, enter the Xtream Codes details we sent. If it asks for a single M3U URL or “remote playlist”, use the playlist address instead. You only need one of the two.

3. Avoid the remote-control keyboard

This is the step that saves the most time. An M3U address is long and case-sensitive, and the on-screen keyboard makes a mistake almost inevitable. Two ways around it:

  • Install the free Fire TV remote app on your phone. It gives the Fire TV a proper keyboard and lets you paste.
  • Or email the details to yourself, open the mail on the Fire TV’s browser, and copy from there.

Also check that the keyboard has not capitalised the first character. It does this by default in many fields, and a capital letter at the start of a username is enough to be rejected.

4. Load the list

Save, and give the app a moment. The first load pulls the full channel list and can take noticeably longer than later ones. When it finishes you should see categories rather than a blank screen.

If something is wrong

The list is empty. Almost always a typo. Re-enter by paste rather than by hand. If it is still empty, test the same details in a player on your phone — if they work there, the account is fine and the Fire TV app is the problem.

Everything buffers. Fire TV sticks sit behind the television, which is one of the worst places in a room for Wi-Fi. Check the signal strength in Settings → Network; if it is not showing as very good, a short HDMI extender that moves the stick clear of the television often fixes it outright.

Only some channels buffer. That pattern points at the source rather than your setup. Note which channels and when, and send it to us.
